BACKGROUND

Busha is an African digital assets company with over 500k users. The basic offering of the product was for buying/selling cryptocurrencies.

User problem

HMW allow users earn interest on their cryptocurrencies to edge against devaluation.

Business opportunity

Open up a new revenue channel while increasing user retention.

THE STATUS QUO

Product features are expressed over a 3 nav system of

- Explore (news/action banners)
- Portfolio (crypto list/values)
- Account (profile/settings)

To kickstart, I experimented with a ton of savings and investment features across crypto and FIAT domains. This gathering of ideas from the wild set a pace for inspiration.

THE YIELD FLOW

The product direction was shaped by existing FIAT savings user behavior, regulatory framework and adaptation of a new feature to an existing app.

The final user flow I made looked something like this. The rationale was to attempt a 4-step process that is both natural and intuitive.

Feature entry point

We had a pretty mature design system, so the initial questions were “Where would it make sense for people to initiate the Yield flow from? , “What should the landing page they see look like?” e.t.c

We went with the 3rd option because:

  • A dedicated tab boxes our real estate for future launches of Spend, Card and Loans features.

  • Semantically and technically, yield and spot balances make up your portfolio, and Option 1 doesn’t make such balance referencing possible,

  • Based on user research, spot is for immediate utility and Yield is more long-term, separating them reduces cognitive load.

Optimal UX flow

The Yield section is empty by default.

We went with the 3rd option because:

  • Plan creation is initiated by clicking the Subscribe button

  • User makes asset selection

  • User enters amount

  • Review the plan, agree to terms

  • Authenticate

  • Completion

Edge case

When the amount entered is greater than the available balance, a top up prompt is presented.

Feature discovery

Several explorations were made to enable easy feature discovery by the user.

Design explorations range from explanatory story sliders to a static explainer screen and a recommendation banner on the homepage.

After considering user goals, utility and function, a combination of option 1 and option 3 were shipped.
